together paffive therein, until, being quickened and renewed by the Holy Spirit k, he is thereby enabled to anfwer this call, and to embrace the grace offered and conveyed in it. III. Elect infants, dying in infancy, are regenerated and faved by Christ through the Spirit m, who worketh when, mercy, he faved us by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the holy Ghoft. Eph. ii. 4. But God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, V. 5. even when we were dead in fins, hath quickened us together with Chrift, (by grace ye are faved) v. 8. For by grace are ye faved, through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: v. 9. not of works, left any man fhould boast. Rom. ix. 11. For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth. 1 Cor. ii. 14. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishnefs unto him: neither can he know them, because they are fpiritually difcerned. Rom. viii. 7. Because the carnal mind is enmity againft God: for it is not fubject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Eph. ii. 5. Others not elected, although they may be called by the ministry of the word p, and may have some common operations of the Spiritq; yet they never truly come to Chrift, and therefore cannot be favedr: much lefs can men, not profeffing the Chriftian religion, be faved in any other way whatsoever, be they never fo diligent to frame their lives according to the light of nature, and the law of that religion they do profefs; and to affert and maintain, that they may, # John iii. 8. HOSE whom God effectually calleth, he also freely justifietha: not by infusing righteousness into them, but by pardoning their fins, and by accounting and accepting their persons as righteous: not for any thing wrought in them, or done by them, but for Christ's fake alone: not by imputing faith itself, the act of believing, or any other evangelical obedience, to them as their righteousness; but by imputing the obedience and fatisfaction of Christ unto themb, they receiving and refting on him and his righteousness by faith; preached unto you, let him be accurfed. God in the world. * John iv. 22. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship; for falvation is of the Jews. John xvii. 3. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jefus Christ whom thou haft fent, 2 John 9. Whofoever tranfgreffeth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. v. 10. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive. him not into your house, neither bid him God fpeed. v. 11. Which is not another; but there be fome that trouble you, and would pervert the gofpel of Chrift. v. 8. But though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gofpel ante you, than that which we have I. a Rom. viii. 30. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he alfo called, and whom he called, them he alfo juftified: and whom he juftified, them he alfo glorified. Rom. iii. 24. Being juftified freely by his grace, through the redemp tion that is in Jesus Christ. b Rom. iv. 5. But to him that 'worketh not, but believeth on him that juftifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. v. 6. Even as David alfo defcribeth the bleffedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteoufnefs without works, v. 7. faying, Bleffed are they whofe iniquities are forgiven, and whofe fins are covered. v. 8. Bleffed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute fin. 2 Cor. v. 19. To wit, that God was in Chrift, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasfes unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. v. 21. For he hath made him to be fin for us, who knew no fin, that we might be made the righte oufness of God in him. Rom. iii. Chap. XI. faith; which faith they have not of themfelves, it is the gift. of God c. II. Faith, thus receiving and refting on Chrift and his 22. Even the righteoufnefs of God which is by faith of Jefus Chrift unto all, and upon all them that believe; for there is no difference. v. 24. Being juftified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Jefus Chrift; v. 25. Whom God hath fet forth to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remiflion of fins that are paft, thro' the forbearance of God. v. 27. Where is boafting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. v. 28. Therefore we conclude, that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Tit. iii. 5. Not by works of righteoufnefs which we have 'done, but according to his mercy he faved us, by the wafhing of regeneration, and renewing of the holy Ghoft: v. 7. That being juftified by his grace, we fhould be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Eph. i. 7. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgivenefs of fins, according to the riches of his grace. Jer. xxiii. 6. In his days Judah fhall be faved, and Ifrael fhall dwell fafely; and this is his name whereby he fhall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. 1 Cor. i. 30. But of him are ye in Chrift Jefus, who of God is made unto us wifdom, and righteousness, fanctification, and redemption. v. 31. That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. Rom. v. 17. For if by one man's offence, death reigned by one; much more they who receive abundance righte of grace, and of the gift of righteoufnefs, fhall reign in life by one, Jefus Chrift. v. 18. Therefore as by the offence of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation: even fo by the righteousnefs of one, the free gift came upon all men unto juftification of life. v. 19. For as by one man's disobedience, many were made finners: fo by the obedience of one, shall many be made righteous. e Acts x. 44. While Peter yet fpake these words, the holy Ghost fell on all them who heard the word. Gal. ii. 16. Knowing that a man is not juftified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jefus Chrift; even we have believed in Jefus Chrift, that we might be juftified by the faith of Chrift, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law fhall no flesh be justified. Phil. iii. 9. And be found in him, not having mine own righteoufnefs, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteoufnefs which is of God by faith. Acts xiii. 38. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of fins: v. 39. And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Mofes. Eph. ii. 7. That in the ages to come he might fhew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness towards us, through Chrift Jefus. v. 8. For by grace are ye faved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. II. d Jobs righteousnefs, is the alone inftrument of justification d; yet is it not alone in the perfon juftified, but is ever accompanied with all other faving graces, and is no dead faith, but: worketh by love e III. Chrift, by his obedience and death, did fully dif charge the debt of all thofe that are thus juftified, and did make a proper, real and full fatisfaction to his Father's juftice in their behalff. Yet, in as much as he was given by II. d John i. 12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the fons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Rom. iii. 28. Therefore we conclude, that a man is juftified by faith, without the deeds of the law. Rom. v. 1. Therefore being juftified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jefus Christ. e James ii. 17. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead being alone. v. 22. Seeft thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? v. 26. For as the body without the spirit is dead, fo faith without works is dead also. Gal. v. 6. For in Jefus Chrift, neither circumcifion availeth any thing, nor uncircumcifion; but faith which worketh by love. III. ƒ Rom. v. 8. But God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet finners, Chrift died for us. v. 9. Much more then being now juftified by his blood, we fhall be faved from wrath through him. v. 10. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son: much more, being reconciled, we shall be faved by his life, v. 19. For as by one man's disobedience, many were made finners: fo by the obedience the of one, fhall many be made righteous. 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Chrift Jefus; v. 6. who gave himself a ranfom for all, to be teftified in due time. Heb. x. 10. By the which will we are fanctified, through the offering of the body of Jefus Chrift once for all. v, 14. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are fanctified. Dan, ix. 24. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people, and upon thy holy city, to finith the tranfgreflion, and to make an end of fins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteoufness, and to feal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the moft holy. v. 26. And after threefcore and two weeks, fhail Meffiah be cut off, but not for himfelf: and the people of the prince that shall come, fhall destroy the city and the fanctuary, and the end thereof fhall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war defolations are determined.
